Travel Guidelines to Nepal

For Indian and Foreign Travellers

  • • This guide provides essential travel information to ensure a smooth and safe journey to Kathmandu, Nepal for all delegates.

Mode of Travel (Applicable to All Delegates)

  • • All participants will arrive via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu – Nepal’s primary international airport.
  • • Direct flights to Kathmandu are available from major Indian cities and international hubs.

For Indian Travellers

Entry Requirements:
  • • Visa is not required for Indian nationals.
  • • Mandatory travel documents (any one of the following):
    • • Valid Indian Passport
    • • Voter ID card (EPIC)
  • Note: Aadhaar card is not valid for international air travel to Nepal.
Currency:
  • • Indian currency notes of ₹100 and below are widely accepted.
  • • Notes of ₹200, ₹500, and ₹2000 are not accepted.
  • • Recommended: Exchange Indian Rupees for Nepalese Rupees (NPR) at authorized counters.
Mobile Connectivity:
  • • Indian SIM cards do not work in Nepal.
  • • Purchase a local SIM card (e.g., Ncell or Nepal Telecom) at the airport or city stores.
  • • ID required: Passport or Voter ID

Guidelines for Foreign (Non-Indian) Travellers

Entry Requirements:
  • • Tourist visa is mandatory.
  • • Visa can be obtained:
Required Documents:
  • • Valid passport with at least 6 months of validity
  • • Completed arrival form
  • • Passport-sized photograph
  • • Visa fee in cash (USD or equivalent)
Currency:
  • • Currency exchange available at airport and banks
  • • Carry USD, EUR, GBP, or INR for exchange
  • • Credit/debit cards are accepted at most hotels and larger outlets
Mobile Connectivity:
  • • Foreign SIMs may not work
  • • Purchase a local prepaid SIM at the airport or city outlets
  • • Passport required for activation

Airport Arrival Instructions (All Travellers)

  • • Proceed to immigration clearance (Visa-On-Arrival counter for foreigners)
  • • Collect baggage from the designated belt
  • • Exit through the Green Channel if carrying no dutiable items
  • Avoid carrying drones, satellite phones, or expensive electronics without prior declaration
